With these supplies, simple tools, easy-to-use apps, and a smartphone or spherical camera, students can create their own immersive photos and videos. The Virtual Reality viewers will transplant my students into a new reality by engaging their senses. With our virtual reality viewers, my students don't just have to simply imagine. The possibilities are endless! Instead of simply teaching out of a text book, I will incorporate the Virtual Reality Viewers in all subjects in my classroom as a self-contained 3rd grade teachers. In Science, I can have students examine 360 degree images of different habitats around the world. Then challenge students to identify what types of adaptations animals need in order to survive in the environment they are viewing. In History and Social Studies, we can take virtual tours of the locations where events occurred. In Reading/Writing students can view different settings using an app or students can write their own descriptions for photos what show their understanding of a story. In Math I can place students in a virtual space and ask them to use non-standard units of measurement to figure out perimeter, area, or volume of space. In the Arts students can explore exhibits and examine entire collections from some of history's most famous artist. The Virtual Reality viewers aren't just going to be used to transport to amazing and far away places. Although that is the wow factor, the Virtual Reality viewers also allow students to be creators--creators of content and information they can share with their community and world. For example, my students could highlight events going on in the school and create a school blog or website by third graders. The virtual tour would be a 360 degrees video directed, scripted, and produced by students.
