I don't just teach children, I teach 'Learners, Thinkers, Scientists, Writers, Historians, Explorers, Authors, Artists, Observers, Readers, Performers, Athletes, Mathematicians, and Speakers.' San Marcos is a well-known university town that sits in the heart of the Texas Hill Country between San Antonio and Austin, the state capital. We are a river community and host thousands of visitors. My 5th grade students attend one of the five local elementary schools in an independent public school district which annually enrolls almost 10,000 students. We are one of the fastest growing cities in the state and country. More than seventy-percent of my students are from low-income homes, but this doesn't mean that they aren't capable of making a difference. These children are more than our future, they are our lifeline.
