One of the most common questions in my classroom has been, "Mrs. B, can we sit where we want to work?" My answer is always yes, just work hard and don't let it distract you. I have decided to try and take this as far as I can and allow for my students to move and sit where and how they are comfortable. My goal is to get some "flexible seating options" for my classroom. When students are able to sit in comfortable, flexible seating options, it greatly enhances their focus. I would like to be able to offer my students a variety of seating options based on their needs. Students would have the opportunity to use balance balls, camping chairs, stools, yoga mats, and textured cushions to help them be comfortable while learning and working to the best of their ability. Some students get tired of the hard plastic chairs all day and really who can blame them? It's hard for some adults to sit still and in the same uncomfortable chair for an extended amount of time. I would love to be able to allow my students to wiggle, bounce, and stretch so that they will love coming into my classroom and learning each day! I want to give students choices for flexible seating and give them a sense of accountability in their own academic success. I am requesting a balance ball, textured hedgehog cushions, yoga mats, stools, and camping chairs to give my students some seating choices. In providing these flexible seating options, my students will gain focus and do so comfortably.
