My students this past year have reminded me as to why I became a teacher. They brought so much excitement and willingness into the classroom that it was nothing but contagious. They even inspired me to move to fourth grade with them. Which is a huge move for me- I am leaving my comfort zone of my classroom and curriculum for 7 years. The majority of these kids live in poverty and are disadvantaged socially and economically, however my expectations for them are high. During teacher appreciation week I receive gifts that are one of a kind. This past year a student bought me a t-shirt from a yard sale, because he knew I liked the Detroit Tigers. Another student found an old cigarette case and gave it to me because blue is my favorite color. I have to give back to these kids so I can continue to watch them achieve to their potential.
