I teach small groups of struggling readers. My students need structured, specific, and explicit instruction that utilizes sensory strategies because the traditional methods of reading instruction have not worked for them. To facilitate their learning, I use the Orton Gillingham (OG) approach. I am certified in OG and spend hours tailoring lessons for each group's needs. Since I do not use a "boxed" program (like Sonday or Wilson), I create most materials myself or purchase them on my own. A key element for my students' success is the multi-sensory aspect of OG. These learners need to hear, see, touch, and move about the room as they learn. By incorporating their senses, it rewires their brains, so they can become stronger readers. I would like to expand the amount of multi-sensory materials in my classroom, so my students have access to as many engaging and meaningful learning experiences possible.
