We will use the requested materials to make our interactive whiteboard supplies (markers, pointers, important papers) more accessible for student use. Currently, due to lack of space and needed organizational supplies, my students rely on a teacher to retrieve the needed materials for them when participating in an interactive whiteboard lesson, which is not the best practice when trying to facilitate independence in a life skills classroom. These materials are more than just convenience; they are necessities! Having an organizational system in place for storing equipment will allow for independence when my students need to retrieve, utilize or put away their work materials. This not only teaches organizational skills, but life skills as well, making this small set of organizational tools a huge impact with the types of students I teach. I believe that teaching is not only relaying new information to my students, but more importantly in leading by example. I believe that organization is key and the more that our classroom is organized and the more I provide my students with practical solutions to organizing their work materials, the less time they waste on disorganization, looking for materials, or losing materials.
