We live in an ever-changing world, don't we? I know when I am at home relaxing, I tend to pick up my smartphone to connect with family and friends on social media, read articles online, or search for a podcast or two that may interest me. Our society heavily relies on the use of technology, and one of my overall goals as a teacher is to incorporate the use of technology more often in my classroom. I mean, if I don't do this, am I truly preparing my students for the modern world? When they grow up and achieve "what they want to be when they grow up," I am sure some form of technology will be involved. I feel it would be a disservice to my students if I didn't prepare them for future jobs, and basic technology skills such as typing. At my school, we utilize many online programs to help bridge gaps in students' literacy and mathematics achievement. Unfortunately, I only have two student computers located in my room to be utilized. You can imagine how difficult this can be, especially when my students have a great desire to safely explore the online world awaiting them. Specifically, the iPads will be used daily in my small group literacy & math centers. Each student will be able to utilize an iPad daily and access a curriculum program we use called "Ready." It does just that, gets students ready for the years to come. Through the ready online program, they will be allowed to access online lessons tailored to fit their learning. Your donations will provide my students with more opportunities to access online literacy and mathematics programs, encourage and excite learning in my classroom and give students the tools they need to be successful learners in today's changing classrooms.
