I am requesting these items today because my hope is to be able to reach every single one of my students exactly where they are in their learning. In a Self Contained Special Education classroom, there is no cookie cutter, whole group lesson planning. Each student is learning at a different pace, in a different place and has completely different goals from one another. As a Title 1, Special Education teacher, I know that these students are not only struggling with a learning disability, but most of them struggle from poverty as well. With these supplies, my students will have the opportunity to make their own choices in learning materials, seating options and much more. They will gain a sense of control over their own learning and learning environment. Many of the items I have chosen such as the playsticks, magna tiles, and the tweezer sorting it are going to be used by my students to help them increase their fine motor skills, problem solving skills and creativity. These items will be used both independently at work stations, as well as in small group instruction for the kinesthetic and visual learners. The write and wipe erase folders will allow my students the repetition they need while learning how to write their names, letters, numbers, sight words, etc. which will save tremendously on paper cost. The word and number swatters will be used for MANY different activities such as morning meeting, word work, etc. where my students will be asked to find target letters or words that we are working on in a fun hands on way! Finally, the letter sound matching and listening bingo will be used by students during small group games to help aid in the development of their phonics and literacy skills.
