I am a second grade teacher at an inner city school. My students are eager learners from a variety of social, cultural, and economic backgrounds. Many of them deal with difficult home situations, poverty, trauma, and a history of behavioral or academic issues. All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Despite difficult circumstances, I believe each one of my students has the potential for growth and I want them to believe they can achieve their dreams. We work very hard to instill the joy of discovery and learning. Our classroom fosters a sense of belonging and respect as we engage in our daily active, purposeful, and challenging lessons. My goal, as their teacher, is to help students overcome any obstacles they may face and to provide an environment that is conducive to learning, as well as being fun and safe.
