This project will assist my scholars with becoming more confident and familiar with the math techniques that are needed for them to be successful in second grade and throughout their school career. Their understanding of numbers and problem solving will become better for school and in their community. Often times inside of the classroom, because materials are scarce some scholars who may need the physical manipulative may miss out on the extra touch they need to be successful because of the lack of materials. Purchasing these materials for my scholars will give them the confidence that they need to grow and excel with their standardized tests and daily assignments within the classroom. The Rekenrek’s will be used in my classroom as a tool to assist the scholars with understanding how to add and subtract, create doubles using plus 1 and minus 1, plus 10 and minus 10. The Rekenrek will also be used as a visual model for strategic reasoning and computation.
