These book bins will organize the reading material that will be assigned to each individual child. I inherited approximately 1000 books that I have leveled and sorted by topic. Our library will be a place where kids can go "shopping" for a new set of books each week. Students will develop their reading identity because they are selecting books of their choosing by reading level. They will be given a diverse set of books with various genres and strong illustrations. You don't always have to read the words to gain meaning from a book! From picture book, to poetry, or lessons about friendship-my class will know where to find the books that we are looking for because of our organizational system. I want my students to be passionate about reading, which I hope will develop as early as kindergarten. We will also have a selection of books on CD, but currently no CD player. Listening to stories is as important as reading because it exposes children to higher level text.
