Students come into my office for a much needed sensory break. The sensory toys that I have added to the wish list will allow for students to unwind and find positive ways to address their stress and anxiety. The fidget toys can be taken back to their classrooms to be used appropriately when a student is feeling anxious or overwhelmed. A lot of students come in with a variety of different needs. It is important that they have a safe, calming space where they can decompress before they return to class. The items that I have included, such as the sound machine and soft lighting will help students with sensory disabilities to calm down and refocus. The workbooks, card games, and books will give students another option to choose when they come into my classroom. The goal is for them to self advocate for themselves by choosing to come see me and then eventually choosing an item or option that will help to calm them down before they return to class. Most of these items will be sent back to class with students to be used by new students. The Lysol spray will help prevent the spread of Covid 19 as I can disinfect each item as it is reused.
