Through the use of various children's books, posters, appropriate praise, and activities, I want to create a classroom environment that promotes a growth mindset rather than a fixed mindset in my students. Research has shown that a growth mindset can help close gaps that some students have in regards to learning, as well as increasing academic achievement. Students will understand and develop growth mindsets, throughout the year, as we read and discuss the various books that your donation will purchase. Each book has a specific topic that lends to class discussions, that will lead to developing a growth mindset. The posters and banner will serve as a daily reminder of what can be accomplished as we try, even if we sometimes fail or make mistakes, and will be laminated so that they can be used for many years. Our special daily sharing time for these books will be created by the carpet, so that students sit comfortably while each book is read and discussed.. The cart will provide a place to keep these books so that children can have easy access to them to read on their own. I want students to understand that when a skill is very difficult and challenging to them, it does not mean that they are not smart, but rather that they will have a chance to grow their intelligence. Students will be able to understand that growth mindset is all about trying hard, using good strategies, and getting help when needed. I hope that by helping students develop a growth mindset, they would meet new challenges with optimism and be able to talk about what they learn.
