I have a personal experience to share. This year I had a non-English speaker enroll into my classroom. She was so eager to learn about America, our culture and language. There was not a day that went by that she walked into my classroom with a big smile as I invited her into our learning environment. She inspired me to do better and wrestle through all that college had taught me to help her reach her highest potential. I want to be honest and say I wasn't prepared for it, but was successful regardless. A Students' highest potential is reached when they are in a safe and comfortable environment. I made her feel safe and comfortable enough to learn a language that was foreign to her. She was speaking and writing complete sentences at the end of the year and was reading stories to me and an audience. She is the reason why I created this project. I have all of the educational tools to teach and educate any child. All I need is a new flexible learning environment. This environment will be so welcoming my students will feel at home away from home. I cannot do this myself as it would take a toll on my finances. I am a mother of three children and would only be able to make flexible seating possible in my classroom with the generosity of donations from people who support education and student success.
