Using a cross curricula project with high engagement gives my students the motivation they need to self explore. We will be using the NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer. “America’s Ship for Ocean Exploration,” is the only federally funded U.S. ship assigned to systematically explore our largely unknown ocean for the purpose of discovery and the advancement of knowledge. Telepresence, using real-time broadband satellite communications, connects the ship and its discoveries live with audiences ashore." http://www.noaa.gov As part of this discovery based, arts integrated, project based learning instruction we will compare the history within the classic novel "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" by Jules Verne to today's methods of ocean exploration.
