Flexible seating helps provide my students with stimulation that in turn helps them focus and process information. For example, I have a student who has Autism. His disability causes him to pace to process information. When he has the chance to be in a wobble stool, the stimulation helps him with not feeling like he has to pace. Instead, he is actually able to get work done. My students are more comfortable when they are not stuck on hard, metal chairs for the school day. If a student is uncomfortable, they are less likely to be willing to learn. My students also love the chance to pick a chair that makes them feel like they are going to be successful. I would love to provide students with a choice of seating that goes beyond the typical classroom chair. Coming from a community where a lot of my students are focusing on trying to survive, I would love to give them a fighting chance at school to learn.
