It is my goal as a first grade teacher to help my students love learning and coming to school. To promote a positive learning environment that children enjoy I try to include activities that are tactile or kinesthetic so that my students can apply what they are learning in fun ways. Play is a child's work. In the early years children are curious and are developing their sense of logic and are building their interpersonal skills and making connections with their teachers and peers. Playing games with students gives me a way to incorporate more fun into our day while still learning. Students who are learning English as a second language can develop their newly acquired language skills by playing with each other and it gives them an opportunity to authentically practice their language skills. Many of my students live below the poverty line and do not have access to good, quality games and activities. Therefore, I am requesting a variety of game titles, some math and language based practice games, along with some tactile building materials for students who love to build together.
