Technology is scarce in our school due to testing all year round, and when the computer labs are available they are quickly reserved. Bringing these tablets into our classroom will provide my students the opportunity to actively engage in multiple learning opportunities without limitations. They will broaden their technology skills beyond social media, and learn the computer skills necessary to be successful in our modern world. My students will use the devices to develop research skills and engage in current events around the world. They can collaborate on projects and peer edit their assignments using Office 365. Most importantly, they will also use these tablets to practice their writing and reading skills in a similar format to what they can expect on the Florida State Assessment. The FSA requires 10th graders to type a timed multi-paragraph essay as part of their assessment, but my students aren’t familiar with a computer keyboard. The state assessment also requires them to read long passages followed by answering higher-order questions, but struggle with staring at a computer screen for hours at a time. Having the technology accessible to my students allows me to assist them in developing the stamina needed to take a computerized exam. Providing my students with these tablets, benefits their learning, improves their test scores, and prepares them for life.
