My school and our students are in need of specific materials to be able to successfully teach The Fourth Great Lesson, The History of Writing. These materials include things like hieroglyphics stamps, various books, clay and other art materials to name a few. These amazing lessons teach students the origins of the written word. With the proper materials, students will have hands-on experiences to feel as if they are living through the history of writing. The lesson begins around 15,000 BC with cave drawings and pictographs and follows writing up to the present with computers. We are a public Montessori school located in Durham North Carolina. We currently lack sufficient funds to be able to purchase all the required materials to make this lesson as engaging and meaningful as it can be. The students will gain a wealth of information and understanding of how the development of writing impacted civilization. They will discuss topics such as hieroglyphics, different alphabets, different writing systems and ancient civilizations. Students will learn about the impact of the invention of the printing press through the invention of modern computers which they are more familiar. Your donation will make it possible for students to experience these lessons the way they were meant to be. These materials will be well taken care of, as respect and care for materials is something instilled in our Montessori students from the time they begin at our school in pre-k. That means this lesson will be able to be taught for years to come. These materials will also be shared with multiple classrooms meaning your donation will impact many students at our school.
