Flexible seating options will help my third grade students by transforming our learning space into a more student-centered environment. Students who have extra energy will be able to move as needed without disrupting others as they are learning. Using stability balls, cushioned stools, floor pillows, wobble stools, and scoop seats will allow students more autonomy in selecting the best learning environment to fit their needs, as well as integrate more physical activity into the regular classroom setting. For students who have behavior issues that are linked to ADD and ADHD, using flexible seating will allow them more freedom to move and improve their focus and cut down on behavior issues. Research has shown that flexible seating allows for more physical movement which encourages blood flow and helps to focus and motivate students. In addition, the use of stability balls in the place of a chair builds core muscle strength which improves concentration, focus, and coordination. By giving students more autonomy within the classroom, they are learning how make appropriate choices and become more responsible, self-motivated learners with increased engagement in our classroom. So as you can see by donating to our classroom, you will help my students "Flex Our Minds with Flexible Seating" and become more successful 21st century learners!
