Mentor texts are extremely important while teaching my students how to refine their craft of writing! Everyday I encourage my students to become authors of their life stories and of everything that they experience, learn, or imagine. Mentor texts are a super important part of this! If I want my students to craft a descriptive story, filled with dialogue and details, I need to show them what this looks like and talk about it with them. Mentor texts are the perfect way to do so! Mentor texts inspire and teach my kiddos at every step of the writing process, from play and experimentation with words, to planning for writing, to crafting and revising, to publishing. Throughout our units of study, these mentor texts will help my students in their writing, based on what style of writing we are learning. Please consider giving to our classroom! I have struggled to find these texts in my school library and even at my city library! I would love to have a set for our 4th grade! They are beautifully written books and we would use each book to it's fullest capacity. Help us as I encourage and teach my young authors!
