I teach Latin I, II, III, IV, and AP at Northwest Pennsylvania Collegiate Academy. My students and I use many teaching strategies aligned with modern research that embrace an "active" use of the language. We tell stories, discuss our lives, make up characters, and do many other wonderful things, all in Latin. My students do not learn ABOUT Latin, but actively engage with the language itself. My room is small and modest but we make the best out of what we have. Students enjoy creating stories and then acting these out using various props and instruments. In addition, I strive to create a culture for the program that is inclusive and supportive of all learners from all backgrounds and interests. Every student can succeed through the joyful and vibrant language acquisition practices that I strive to employ on a daily basis.
