Imagine arriving in a new country, living in a new home, hearing a new language, entering a huge building with big kids rushing all around you. Now imagine you are only five years old. Someone walks you to a classroom with smiling faces but you may have never even been to school before; what is a classroom, what do kids do here? This is the reality of my students. The school is a title one school in a gateway neighborhood, many of the families are new to the country and are establishing their new lives in the United States. Although my students don't have many material things and many times come to school without a backpack or clean clothes but they all have a huge smile every morning and a heart of gold.
