I learned the importance of teaching students how to code in the classroom and how it impacts their understanding of digital learning. Through hands-on and collaborative tasks, I learned to code Dash and some useful ways Dash can support learning. Now, I plan to use Dash the Robot to introduce my students to coding and how to integrate coding skills across all subjects. The more students engage with Dash, the more I expected them to learn to code and build lifelong skills. I am looking forward to Dash in the classroom because coding exposes them to endless possibilities for learning and beyond. For example, they will use Dash to solve math equations and create word problems. Dash will also be used to retell and create literacy comprehension tasks, as well as geography and social studies skills. Coding will allow them to work together in groups and think outside the box to take risks, problem-solve, and express themselves. With Dash, my students will take their coding out of the digital space and put it into action in the actual world. Whether it’s students demonstrating their knowledge of angles, building 3-dimensional figures, or creating matching math vocabulary games, funding this project will take my students one step closer to being ready and adaptable for the future.
