With the introduction of iPads into our classroom, my students will gain access to the digital world, which they have previously been unable to do because of their visual impairments. For my students who are blind, the built-in Voiceover feature will give full access to the iPad's technology--technology which their sighted peers have already used for years. My students with low vision will be able to use a combination of Voiceover and their useable vision on the larger iPad to access all it has to offer. Having iPads in the classroom will provide a solid foundation in technology, leading to future success of my students. In addition to having online access to learning, my students will be able to use apps for math, literacy, science, and more. The accessibility features of the iPad even allow for onscreen braille input, making it an ideal alternative to much more expensive technology created specifically for those with visual impairments.
