Starting a Robotics Club at my school will help transform the students learning, the student and teacher relationships, and will help give students something to look forward to. Most of our scholars come from low income areas and with our school only offering Scholars Unlimited after school, there really isn't much keeping the students engaged after school ends. A Robotics Club can be used in many different ways. For example, we can code the Robots to do different things, like go over a ramp, or even go in water! They can also be used for story telling! You can read a book with the kids, and then have them program the Robots to move in the same way that the characters did in a book, giving another form of assessment to the classroom! Giving my students something to look forward to after school helps the students, the school and the community by building stronger relationships and stronger connections. This Robotics club is more than just Robots. It is a project where students collaborate together to program, to learn from trial and error and most importantly to laugh and learn from our mistakes. Giving my students the opportunity to learn something new and to be creative in different ways is a win win, if you ask me.
