The heart of this project is honoring the diverse needs of learners. Many students just need to move while they work, and this is a definite reality in my classroom. This movement helps them do their most creative and thoughtful work. Without this alternative, not only is their own learning style often stifled, but so are the learning needs of others who work around them. By offering this flexibility to my students, they are empowered to understand their personal learning needs and to respect the (often very different) needs of their classmates. This is a win win and sets the tone for a respectful, collaborative learning environment. We are asking for active learning stools and folding chairs.
