As a first year 3rd grade teacher, my supplies for my students are very limited. I have been able to borrow supplies from other teachers, but I do not have enough materials for students to explore the math concepts independently. This kit will allow my students to be more actively engaged throughout the entire lesson as they explore various math skills. For example, last week we did a measurement lesson. Students were supposed to weigh various objects using spring scales. I only had one spring scale for the lesson, so I had to model the lesson for the students. The curriculum suggested that all students work in partners to take turns weighing various objects. Due to limited resources and time, this would not have been possible. We had a short window of time until the teacher that I borrowed the spring scale from would need it for her lesson. The kit includes many math materials, which are all necessary to fully implement my school's curriculum. The materials include the following: • 12 plastic pipettes • 600 two-color counters • Place value strips (10 each of 4 values) • Place value disks )175 each of 7 values) • 4 digital scales with bowls • 24-hour advance teacher clock • SAFE-T® metric weights (set of 58) • Liter pitcher • 100 snap blocks • 750 plastic pattern blocks • 12 platform scales (2.2 kg/5 lbs.) • 6 digital stopwatches Receiving all of these materials would ensure that students were able to watch me effectively model the concepts, allow students to explore the concepts in groups and independently, and allow me to differentiate my lessons to provide supports to meet all learners' individual needs.
