Reading with a child is so important. It is shown that when a child has more exposure to reading at home, they improve their language skills and literacy achievement. This continued exposure to literature encourages them to question, wonder, and discover.
Every child deserves to have access to books and discover a love for reading.
Many of the students in my school community do not have access to books or other resources at home. The joy that my students feel when they get to take a book or text home to share with their family is amazing.
I want to build a leveled take home library. Sending home a book at their reading level will empower students to share it with their family. I would also like them to have access to Scholastic News. The rich literature and variety that comes with Scholastic News will continue to spark curiosity with new topics. Our school community has a large population of families that do not speak English at home. Ensuring that the books are at my students' level is crucial and will allow them to practice their reading skills at home, with a parent, or independently.
Please help me create not only a take home library and access to Scholastic News, but a community of readers. With your help my students will have access to books and texts that can help inspire and encourage them. I hope that you choose to help encourage young readers to reach their full potential.
