Every day our students' mealtime trash ends up in the landfill. We use recyclable milk & juice cartons that we could recycle. We could turn our uneaten fresh produce into nutrient rich compost for our school garden. It's time for our growth mindset to design and implement the recycling and composting systems that will work for us and gain career oriented civil engineering experience! This program will allow us to develop leadership, create goals, and measure our progress. It will stimulate opportunities to add value as we revise our advertising and messaging to inspire and encourage all students to participate. 4th, 5th, & 6th grade students will be identified by their vests as they assist 1st, 2nd, & 3rd grade students in the process of safely & appropriately sorting cartons & compostables during their hands-on science laboratory sessions. 4-6th graders will measure temperature & moisture levels in the composting tumblers.
