I am requesting resources to support engaging purposeful play for social and emotional, and science skills. My students have never had a normal school or life routine. Play is the primary way children explore their surroundings, build knowledge, and experiment with their world. Students can learn and retain math, literacy, and social skills. It helps students to self-regulate and interact with others in socially appropriate ways. These are some of the most important skills for students to learn at a young age in order to have continued academic and social learning success in the future. They are also the skills that they have not been able to learn with Covid restrictions. Due to Covid our students have missed out on so much hands-on, meaningful learning. I love to use LEGO blocks for math lessons and problem solving. The building blocks, and picasso tiles will help students to learn about contraction and engineering. Flexible seating allows my students to choose the best spot for them in the classroom where they can focus and work their best. Imaginary play toys like the horse barn, door bell, curtain hanger, and kinetic sand help with social learning, sharing, and sensory soothing. Additional art supplies, books, and iPad stylus will help my students use the technology they are given, learn about their emotions, and complete projects that will reflect their inner artists. Students can learn and retain math, literacy, and social skills all through play! Play has had to be put on the back burner to try and reduce the risk of spreading this disease. While I have modified my methods, changed lesson plans, continued teaching and doing what is best for students they have still missed out.
