When the teacher asks a question, everyone should have the opportunity to answer and share their thinking. Hand held white boards and wipe off pocket folders are two great ways to get all the students involved, not just the ones who raise their hands first. My English language learners are not always confident speaking out in class. These items will help build their confidence and allow me to know what they are thinking. Using magnetic fraction circles and fraction rulers will help me model the conceptual meaning behind equivalent fractions and allow my students to explore and learn what is often a confusing concept. Please help my students get the materials they need to become math masters!
