I teach on the southwest side of Chicago in a school with a large Hispanic population. I describe our school as working poor. We don't have any extra money in our budget. However, our school isn't poor enough for us to qualify for many of the free programs that some of our neighboring schools receive. Our students love having art. We were lucky to receive an addition with a beautiful art room two years ago. We didn't receive any funds for supplies. The parents have been great in bringing in the basics but we don't have money for the art projects I would love for them to create!
