My students receive between 30-45 minutes of Reading Intervention 4 times a week. I would like to provide flexible seating to meet the students' focus, movement, and comfort needs. The "wobble chairs" will allow the students quiet movement while they are engaged in reading, the overlays will help the children focus one line of text and not overwhelm them by seeing the whole page at once, and the timer will be a visible for the students to see how much time they have for a task or when their intervention time is up. It alleviates the asking and worrying about the time. This project would increase the amount of books available to the students to help them "enjoy and engage" in reading to provide them with opportunities otherwise out of reach. As part of one of the interventions I provide a variety of appropriate texts for the students to read during our group time together. I am looking to increase the amount of books available to the students for them to select for independent reading, reading to a peer, and reading at home. This project would allow me to incorporate more hands on phonics activities, allow the students to use the magnetic letters to practice word families, high-frequency words, and word patterns.
