At my school, we have a community meeting every day at the start of the day. At this time, we get together to check in with one another as well as learn important social-emotional skills that are essential for success in life. This meeting takes place on some very old carpet that has been in the room/building for years. There is blood, sweat, and tears (literally) on this carpet as well as dirt, maker stains, and garbage. Putting myself in my students' shoes, I would not want to sit on this carpet. With the addition of this new carpet, my students would have a clean space to sit where they feel safe and special. I would be able to utilize this carpet space during other class times too! I could use this carpet as flexible seating for my students who have a hard time sitting in a desk all day or for those who just need their own space. I would put this rug at the front of my room where my projector is so I would be able to teach from it also.
