Our students must have two years of a foreign language to attend a four year university. I teach all the Spanish 1 classes at my school. I try my best to engage the students so they will enjoy learning a new language. We are in a community with lots of Spanish speakers and I encourage them to practice their skills because it will help them later in life. There are so many ways we can use the headphones within the class. I would love to have my students to listen to authentic material such as Spanish singing as well as Spanish dialogues spoken by native speakers. Another idea I would like to use is allowing them to listen to native speakers in conversation where they would have to participate in speaking activities by recording their response to the activity. Lastly, I would like to have them record themselves as a pre-assessment and listen and critique themselves as a post-assessment. This will allow them to hear their improvements and critique each other.
