Has there ever been a time you were trying to concentrate, yet you just could not get comfortable? In most cases, you would try to find a more comfortable spot, or way, to complete your task. Shouldn’t our students have that same opportunity? Remember the days where everyone sat in the same type of chair and desk? The times are changing and flexible seating has proven to be an effective tool for improved focus and success! Personalized learning is key to reaching a student’s full potential. Falling under the umbrella of personalized learning is flexible seating, which allows and provides the students with choice to find their “comfortable learning spot.” Flexible seating creates a better learning environment because it allows you to learn in an area where each individual feels comfortable. As Taryn states, “I love being able to pick the spot where I feel like I learn the best. It helps me focus which end up creating better work,” Taryn (former student). In order to do this we envision a classroom full of tables, standing and sitting desks, yoga balls, stools, floor tables and lap desks. Our goal is to create an environment where individual needs are met, which will foster and enrich the learning for all of our students. For this project we have requested bed risers, high stools and a Zenergy chair. In order to keep costs to a minimum, we will be using the bed risers to convert regular desks into standing desks and high tables with the stools. The Zenergy chair will provide another seating option for our students who require a little movement while they work. Thank you in advance for helping to transform our classroom into a learning environment that fosters student voice and choice in their learning.
