When students have organized areas and know they have everything they need, they are able to put more energy into the focus of the lesson. If we had seat sacks in our classroom, students would have a well-defined space to put their belongings. When students come into my classroom, they bring library books, books from home, journals, pencil pouches, and even technology that is used for reading. Each of these supplies is necessary, but it causes the students' workspaces to be cluttered, distracting them from learning. This also causes students to frequently lose or mix-up their materials, which is even more of an issue when I cannot allow my own materials to be used within the classroom community. Seat sacks would solve many of the management issues that occur in my classroom by helping students to feel independently organized, prepared, and ready to learn.
