My students just started an in school vocational training program for students with disabilities to learn real life, authentic office skills. This includes, but not limited to: printing, photocopying, laminating, scanning, data entry, filing, and mail. Based on the needs and wants of our students’ person centered plans, we selected 28 students who expressed a desire to work in an office or print shop setting. This program also aligns with students’ goals and will help our students reach mastery level in their goals. The money will be spent buying supplies and appropriate furniture so that we can transform our classroom into a student run office. We received funding for most our supplies; however we still need work station tables. With these workstation tables, the students will be able to have the opportunity to acquire these vocational skills that will help them get jobs in this field in their future when they transition out of high school. We hope to expand this program to partner with Staples for students to generalize these skills in an office working environment.
