Lamont is a rural community is a small agricultural community, Lamont was populated with families from the Dust Bowl migration to California in the 1930's. The Weedpatch farm labor camp depicted in John Steinbeck's Grapes of Wrath is located 2 miles south of Lamont. Many parents in our community continue to make their living in farm labor. Lamont has remained strongly connected to its agricultural roots. Currently our student population is 96% Hispanic with 80% of our students identified as English language learners. Ninety-six percent of the students qualify for free or reduced price lunches, and the district provides a breakfast program for all students.
