I teach in a classroom of 20 four and five year old students. I have one teaching assistant and one classroom aide. The children in my classroom are from families living at or below the poverty level. The families are very involved in our classroom. We often have parents coming in to have lunch with their child, read a story to the class, or just hang out for a while. We've also had a chance to get to know many members of the children's extended family. We've worked very hard to create a family-like environment in our classroom and the fact that our children's families feel so welcome is very gratifying.
