Having a set of high interest leveled books will allow each student to select texts based on personal interests and personal goals. These books will be used for independent practice, to build reading stamina, develop reading vocabularies, and most importantly, develop a love for reading. A classroom library that has multiple text choices at many different reading levels honors the level at which students are currently reading and provides the stepping stones to move these students forward into more complex text. Research shows that students read longer and understand more when they have choice in their literature and read at the appropriate level of complexity. My project will fund additional titles at 12 different reading levels so that students will have more choice across multiple genres and topics.
