My students will be germinating their own seeds in order to transfer their plants into pots, ultimately to give to an inspiring teacher. They will gain hands on experience that will overview lessons from the school year. Students have learned about plant adaptations, the process of photosynthesis, and the flow of energy through living systems. By germinating their own seeds, they will see all of these concepts in real time. Students will then write notes to their most inspirational teacher or faculty member with the plant, to thank the teacher for helping them grow through this school year. This will be a culminating event during teacher appreciation week. Not only will it tie in many science concepts, but it also encourages students social and emotional growth.
