Honowai Elementary is a Title I school, with over 70% of the student population receiving free or reduced cost lunch and a high ELL and SpEd population. Despite the low socioeconomic hardships many of our students face, they come to school full of enthusiasm and an eagerness to learn! It's our responsibility to capture this drive early and ensure that it sustains throughout their education and life. In order to do this, I feel it's imperative to shift our focus to developing a whole-child approach to learning and teaching. I believe this will provide our amazing students the opportunity to grow as learners, learn more about themselves, and possibly find their passion. I am extremely fortunate to be responsible for one avenue in developing students holistically, the visual arts. I will be developing our very first visual art curriculum for K-6! With any new endeavor, start-up cost can be a challenge.
