Students have quickly gone through my personal supply of pencils. I have bought nice electric pencil sharpeners, but they can not handle the amount of pencils we have to sharpen. My students need more pencils and a sharpener that will not "eat the pencils". The constant grinding of pencils is a distraction to my Attention Deficit students and my ESL students. My classroom library needs updating to continue guided reading lessons and offer individual reading time. The majority of my books are over 15-18 years old. They are very worn, some missing pages. I need more books for my small group instruction. These leveled texts will help me modify lessons and teach each child according to his/her specific need. These leveled texts also match the state guidelines. Our school simply does not have the money to purchase books at this time. The white boards and erasers will be used for various lessons. These boards can be used in math, science, social studies, guided reading groups, and during literacy stations. Students enjoy learning when they can write on dry erase boards! Solving a math problem on a white board just boosts their confidence. Magically, it makes them pay attention better, work harder, and become more confident.
