Unfortunately, our school does not have a library. Because of this, having a great classroom library is essential to my students' success in reading. But as a first year teacher, my classroom library is very small and full of old books passed down from retired teachers or bought at garage sales. Many of my students are behind grade level in reading and need an extra push to pick out a book and get excited about reading. By building a better classroom library with the requested books my students will be excited and eager to read. My students need to have books they are interested in and that they want to read. By donating to this project, you will impact the lives of all of my students by filling our class library with new and exciting books that the students will love. I chose these books specifically because they are books my students and other fifth graders have talked about wanting to read. Their reading skills will improve because they will spend more time reading books that they are excited about! Along with building a better book library, I would like to make a reading area in the classroom. Our floor is tile, making it hard to sit on the ground and cozy up with a good book. By having a new rug and bean bags, my students would have a reading nook or area to spend time reading in.
