Orff instruments are essential to every music classroom. Students not only enjoy playing melodic instruments but it teaches them so much that percussion and other simpler classroom instruments do not. Barred Orff instruments such as the xylophones and metallophones teach students hand-eye coordination, teamwork, internal pulse and rhythm and how to express themselves melodically. The instant gratification that percussion instruments supply a student is important in helping them feel successful in creating music. The more comfortable they become with the instruments as they get older, the more ready they will feel to compose larger scale projects!
