Traditional morning work is a thing of the past. I am looking to engage my students with hands-on, engaging morning "work" that allows them the time to prepare for the day and get their brains thinking. With these materials, my students will be given the opportunity to start their day by creating. As a society, we have come to believe that school should be work, work work. But small children still need time to play. They need to build, create, construct, cooperate, encourage, and be persistent. Using building materials that they are unfamiliar with, will also indirectly teach them real world, problem-solving skills. The items that I have chosen will give my students these opportunities. Additionally, having access to these materials will make them even more excited to start their day! Materials such as Magna-Tiles, speed cubes and building sets will not only impact the students that I have this year, but for many years to come. Funding this project creates lasting learning experiences for all of these students.
