These flexible seating options will help students to become more engaged and focused in class discussions. A large part of our Language Arts curriculum is centered around discussion and analysis. Sitting in alternative seating arrangements, afforded by flexible seating, will allow for deeper, more meaningful discussions because creative juices will be flowing! A big push in education today is to give students choice. It is important to project the idea that students can choose what is best for them onto classroom seating arrangements. Students will walk into the classroom and make a decision about where they will be the most successful in learning that day. This will take some getting used to, and trial and error, but ultimately it is my job as a teacher to allow them to make those mistakes, just as I would with the curricular content. Making choices empowers students to engage in their own learning.
