The Sphero SPRK is a new and innovative way to incorporate basic computer programming and math skills into an everyday lesson. This device would inspire and intensify learning in these core areas. It would also allow students to be hands-on while learning, instead of using the traditional pen and paper to reach understanding. The students at our school would benefit from such a hands-on experience. Many of our students have been in trouble at traditional schools because they can't sit at a desk all day. These students need to be up and moving, to experience learning instead of just being taught. The Sphero SPRK would allow for this to happen. Once the students have been given the basic skills necessary to operate the Sphero SPRK, they will work in cooperative groups to develop obstacle courses using geometric principles. Using their assigned jobs, each group will create a program that will allow the Sphero SPRK to complete their course successfully. The demonstration will be a school wide event, and the winning team will receive special recognition. Clearly there are endless possibilities and ways to utilize the Sphero SPRK at our school. We hope that our students are not only the recipients of inspired learning, but also the force that drives the curriculum for these future endeavors.
